BIRD ART FOR KIDS

Curriculum
1. Show slide show of various local small birds found in our backyards. Learn how to distinguish these birds.
2. Let children choose 1 or 2 from a selection of color copies of birds.
3. Lesson 1: Contour Drawing
4. Lesson 2: Color mixing
5. Lesson 3: Tracing
6. Final painting: children choose which technique they want to use for the final painting.
7. Critique

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR:
Ronna Fujisawa is a multi-disciplinary artist, art educator, and mother of a 9 year old daughter living in Portland, Oregon. Her studio practice entails painting in watercolor and oil, as well as multi media in fiber arts. With a passion for teaching, she started a Bird Art class to elementary children in 2015 as an after school enrichment class in several Portland Public Schools. Children are fascinated by birds and passionate about art! The bird art class explores ways to learn about local birds and their habitat though watercolor painting. She recently graduated with a MFA in Applied Crafts and Design from OCAC and PNCA. Since graduation, her focus is to expand her small business Salty Water Art, LLC as a professional maker and educator, sharing her talent and passion for art with young artists who are eager to learn, create, and express themselves artistically.
