Summary for 3-sessions :
The purpose of this series is to provide participants step-by-step instructions on how to use a variety of calligraphy materials and techniques to develop a unique hand-lettering style for expressive writing.
For inspiration the instructor will provide at each session several finished work samples and explain the basic lettering and design techniques for each. Gestural, modern and block letter forms will be covered in this series.
Lessons will include instructor demonstrations and one-on-one guidance.
Emphasis will be on the joy of discovery and experimentation but also with time allotted for mindful practice and skill building. This series is offered in the spirit that everyone has a valuable and unique writing style that can be “re-awakened” and enhanced to create expressive art with the written word.

Week 2 – Modern Letter Forms, Samples, Demo and Practice

About the Instructor:
Rebecca Read is a calligrapher and printmaker living and working on the North Oregon Coast. Rebecca studied graphic design at the Museum Art School in Portland Oregon, and at the University of Oregon. Rebecca began her studies in calligraphy at the age of 14 at the Arts and Crafts Society in Portland. Rebecca has taught calligraphy to youth and adults in Oregon for over 30 years, most recently at Clatsop Community College in Astoria, and for the Cannon Beach Arts Association in Cannon Beach. Rebecca is a member of the Portland Society for Calligraphy and exhibits her calligraphic and printmaking works throughout the Northwest.
