"My Favorite Things" An Interview Project
"Go beyond raindrops and roses"
Elisabeth Jones Art Center is currently hosting an ongoing online interview series with community leaders, wherein artists will create portraits while we discuss all the ways in which their work is making an impact in our world. Although the title of this project, "My Favorite Things", is based on the song from the Sound of Music, the goal is to go beyond "raindrops and roses. It's It's exploring the kinds of "Favorite Things" that define our lives and motivate us to action. During the interviews, 2 artists create portraits of the interviewee. All interviews were conducted over Zoom, with each participant in a different place to ensure social distancing and safety, then posted to our YouTube channel.
"My Favorite Things" seeks to create new ways to find and nurture real human connections as the impacts of COVID-19 push us further apart. Our conversations include anything from social justice, to climate reform, to the need for collective action. We would like to find what it is these leaders want to do to create the kind of world they would like to see. Best case, we will touch on the physical, spiritual, or emotional dimensions of their workin our conversation, which will be reflected in the paintings.
The artists transform the words and ideas they heard in to visual works, creating a type of portrait that aims to represent them through the prism of their 'favorite things'.
