Summary:
One of the most important concepts to drawing the figure is the gesture.
Gesture is the rhythm , motion and action. Gesture is everywhere, embodied in every object, person, and place.
Practicing sketching short poses benefits the artists because it helps them concentrate on the essential elements of the pose and train their perception.
Gugi Goo is interested in art therapy and she believes that art classes can connect people on deeper level
with their own being besides teaching them how to unfold their creativity.
Level: This course is for experienced artists at an intermediary level and beyond.
Syllabus/Schedule:
15 min: Introduction, focus on students and the ideas that are transferred between them and a teacher through art.
10min: Technique for relaxing, blind contour drawing trains the eye and hand to work as a team .
5min: Reflection about exercise.
30min: 6 ’8’ minute poses of a life model .
10min: Comments on sketches, advice how to improve your drawings.
30min: 3 ’ 4’ minute poses .
20min: Detailed analysis of drawings .
Dates /Class focus:
May 30th: Introduction and practice of gesture: One of the most important concepts to drawing the figure.
Gesture is the rhythm , motion, action. Gesture is everywhere, embodied in every object, person, and place.
June 6th: Proportions & Measuring, practice .
June 13th: Shading and practice: Use highlights, halftones, core shadows and more to make figure feel 3
dimensional. Identify specific elements of light and apply it to the figure.
June 20th: Discovery and experimentation 1: 5’and 3’ minute poses develop a drawing schedule.
June 27th: Discovery and experimentation 2: 2’4’6’ minute poses, figure drawings shading
with straight lines only.
July 4th: Action poses. Do some quicker sketch drawings? 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 3 minutes
poses.
July 11th: Improve techniques, Indian ink and pastel, starting to use color in your life
drawings.
Materials needed:
1. Drawing pencil set, or just a few pencils ( 2H, HB, 2B, and 4B, 8B pencils)
2. Variety of Erasers: Rubber Eraser, Kneaded Eraser
3. A Good Pencil Sharpener
4. Charcoal or Conté
5. Blending Stumps / Tortillions
6. Paper, 5" x 11" pads, Strathmore or Bristol papers are recommended, suitable for pen and ink, pencil,
crayon, charcoal, light washes, and markers, Acid-free.
7. Indian ink, brushes, pen.
8. Soft Pastels
9. Fixative spray for charcoal and pastels OR Hair spray.
10. Computer with video and good wifi connection

Gugi Goo is a Serbian contemporary artist who currently resides in Portugal. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia, then at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, Italy, before settling in Portugal. She paints abstract canvases that explore the human condition.
Gugi Goo is inspired by life when creating her works, particularly the human condition and the connection between individuals. Her fundamental aim is to express the most profound human emotions through an exploration of her personal experiences and feelings.
