Workshop Summary:
The Big Up Show program is a media production program designed to give you the opportunity to create video content that speaks to topics that concern your community. We encourage students to produce skits, interviews or performances that work together as a complete 10-15 minute episode of The Big Up Show. During this residencies you will practice teamwork, communication, risk taking and creative collaboration, while learning some fundamentals of content production. One overarching theme in all Big Up Show programs is sharing messages of peace, community and hope. We encouraged you to include these themes in your segments whenever possible.
Here is a list of roles that will need to be filled on our production team:
Producers-Help to coordinate overall production
Writers - Help to create the stories that we tell in the skits, interviews and performances
Directors - Help to make sure we capture the vision of the writers on camera.
On Camera Performers/Actors - Help to bring the story to life by performing scenes, interviews or performances in front of the camera.
Camera Operators - Help to capture the director's, writer's and actor's visions to life by filming
Lighting Designers - Help to ensure that production sets are well lit both visually and stylistically.
Set Designers - Help to create the environment for on camera performers
Sound Designers - Help to record the sound of voices, music, backgrounds and sound effects for a production.
Editors-Help to complete the video by placing all of the segments in a timeline and creating transitions, effects and graphics.
Think about which role or roles you would like to play. Collaborative production is challenging during normal times and will be more challenging while practicing social distancing. Some of us may end up taking on all of the above roles independently. When possible, we encourage creating teams of at least 2 or 3 to create your skits, interviews or performances.
