Class Outline:
Students will work at their own comfort level.
Perhaps focusing on 2 or 3 of the outlined topics below.

Week 1:
Materials and supports for painting.
Bring in brushes, paints and painting gear that you will use.
Indicate if you need supplies.
Bring in portraits to discuss.
Determine your goals.
Week 2:
Gesture of the portrait and composition.
Color zones of the face and paint consistency.
Week 3:
Getting a likeness.
Week 4:
Bonus Session (No Instructor) Working from the model.
Week 5:
Working from the model photographs.
Week 6:
Advanced paint application.
Week 7:
Expressive painting.

About the instructorJoanne Radmilovich Kollman is a Northwest oil painter; her representational paintings of the figure, landscape and still life are earmarked by a lyrical style and unique eye for design. Brushwork and use of broken color elicit movement and spontaneity in her paintings. As a representational alla prima oil painter, simple moments motivate her interest to explore the expressive quality of oil paint. She strives to capture the energy of her subjects through brushwork and observation of light. Joanne paints daily from the model, still life or landscape. Joanne has been awarded numerous grants through the Regional Arts and Culture Council. She teaches and exhibits at The Elisabeth Jones Art Center and Oregon Society of Artists. Her floral paintings have juried into several American Impressionist exhibitions, the most recent at the Salmagundi Club in New York through October 15, 2019. She has received People's Choice, Best of Show, Best Cityscape, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, and honorable mentions in numerous Plein air competitions and juried exhibitions as well as the commission for Portland Rose Festival Queen. Joanne facilitates figure drawing and painting at Oregon Society of Artists 2185 SW Park Pl, Portland, OR 97205. Join her Fridays 9:30-12:30 & 1-4pm for figure painting and to schedule private instruction. See her 2019/2020 class schedule.
